The most popular include, the leisurely Arenal Volcano hike will take you along mostly flat trails near the base of the volcano and give you the opportunity to spot the ever popular red lava from as night falls and the hike down La Fortuna Waterfall for a refreshing swim and an impressive view. More adventurous visitors may consider hiking Cerro Chato, an extinct volcano with an emerald green lake at the top or to Rio Celeste to enjoy natural beauty you will not soon forget. These hikes require a good deal of physical strength and stamina.

Canoeing:

Arenal offers several paddling opportunities! Canoeing is a leisurely way to enjoy the natural beauty of this region. Tours in canoe are available in lake arenal, Peñas Blancas River, and Caño Negro. If you prefer the security of a hard shell canoe over a raft and want a bit of exercise while you take in the sites, canoeing is the choice for you. Some upper body strength is necessary.

Kayaking:

In double or single person kayaks you are able to take to the waters of Lake Arenal, Peñas Blancas River or Caño Negro. These small boats offer you more mobility and allow you to get even closer to all of the amazing flora and fauna that surrounds you, giving you the perfect photo opportunity. Be sure your upper body is in good shape, because its going to get a work out! You will love the ability to be in control as you spend a great half or full day kayaking in the Arenal Region.

You can also go by horseback to Monteverde, making it the most scenic and enjoyable way to travel between these two popular towns.
